Villa Bussum was designed by GROUP A, situated in a lush, leafy neighbourhood in Bussum; a small town near Amsterdam. According to the GROUP A : ” By using slanting walls and roofs the abstract building volume feels comfortably embedded in the landscape. A cut-out corner facing the street in front of the house, clearly indicates the main entrance. On the eastern side of the villa, a secluded garden and a second entrance can be found. A comfortable porch and a 15 meter wide panorama window face the garden, and double up as a transition between the villa and the garden at the back of the house. Both gardens in front and at the back of the house are linked to each other by a sloping path. This descending path extends itself to underneath the cantilevering villa, thereby providing garden access for the basement floor. ”

Whether you are looking into a major kitchen remodel, or just want to make some smaller design changes, there are many steps you can take to make your kitchen more beautiful and functional. Here are a few design tips for your kitchen.
Small kitchens need light colors
If you are working with a small space, then you need to know this design trick. Using light colors makes an area seem bigger than it is, while dark colors tend to shrink a small space even further. For a small kitchen, go with light colors for the walls, countertops and cabinets. Also, bring as much natural light into the room as possible. Pastels are an excellent choice for your space; light pink for the cabinets will convey a lot of warmth and comfort into your kitchen.
Break up the cabinetry
A wall of closed cabinets can look heavy, imposing, and even boring. You can lighten the look and make it more interesting by breaking up the cabinet blocks and adding some variety. Switch one or two cabinets to have either glass doors or no doors. You can also put a wine storage area in place of one cabinet.
Find a focal point
Your kitchen will have a more cohesive look if you have one primary focal point, rather than many bright, eye-catching elements. Your focus could be a colorful backsplash, some bright cabinets, or a set of copper pans hanging near the stove. Decide what your focal point is, and then arrange the rest of your design to complement that.
Arrange your cooking area
Put the most common items you need while cooking near the range. This makes your job easier while you cook, and it can also add a decorative touch. Set up attractive utensil holders near the stove, or a small shelf to hold cooking oils and spices you use frequently. You can also hang a few pots and pans near the stove.
Paint walls and cabinets
If you can’t afford to buy new cabinets, you can always paint the ones you already have. The whole process may take up to 2 days, but it will be worth it. Remove the doors, handles, and knobs and sand your wooden cabinets to remove the old paint. Select a color palette that is in tone with the rest of your kitchen. If you have plenty of space, you can afford to play with the nuances and paint cabinets in a stronger, deeper color.
Plan a landing zone
When you take a hot dish out of the oven, you need a convenient place right there to set it. That is your landing zone, and ideally you should have at least 15 inches of open countertop to both sides of your oven, stove, and microwave. It is also handy to have a landing zone right next to the refrigerator.
Make cleaning easier
When you are choosing appliances and countertops, think about what will be easiest to clean. Tile counters look nice, but the grooves between the tiles make them harder to clean. Glossy countertops show dirt and smudges more easily than those with a matte finish. Glass shelves in a refrigerator can catch spills, where wire shelves would let it spread to the items beneath.
Add more plugs
If you’ve ever used a kitchen where you have to move the coffee maker every time you want to use the mixer or food processor, you know how annoying it can be when you don’t have enough outlets. Install additional outlets along your kitchen island or below shelves, so you always have a plug-in where you need it.
There are lots of convenient ways to remodel a kitchen. First of all, you must settle on a budget. If you want to completely change the appeal, then painting cabinets, walls and floors should work out perfectly.
