3 Signs it’s Time for a New Mattress

December 20, 2015 Guest Post

It is fairly easy to determine whether or not you need a new mattress. Over time, you will find that your mattress is no longer what it once was, which will require you to either flip it over or change it. It is advised that you change a mattress at least once every 10 years as a result of normal wear and tear. Here are a few sure signs that it is time for you to change yours.

Pain and Grogginess
If you wake up after being in bed for a full eight hours and have aches and pains, particularly in your back, shoulders and neck, then it means your mattress is no longer offering the good support it once did. You should wake up refreshed and without experiencing any pain. Likewise, with an old mattress that is worn out, you may awaken feeling groggier than you should. This is because if your mattress is uncomfortable, you will probably spend a good portion of the night tossing and turning. In other words, even if you are asleep while doing that, you may wake up feeling tired instead of refreshed.

Noticeable Springs
Any mattress that has springs sticking out of it should certainly be changed. A mattress should not have any noticeable holes or springs that stick you when you are laying on it. In addition, if you are feeling springs, you might also have a problem of sagging in your mattress. This is certainly less than comfortable. Plus, you are opening yourself up to scratches, nicks and cuts if the springs should actually create holes in the mattress.

Allergens
Over time, a bed will naturally collect allergens, even if you regularly clean your bedroom by vacuuming or dusting. If you find yourself suffering from allergies that are worse when you are in bed than when you are elsewhere, especially outdoors, this is a definite sign that you should dump your old mattress and upgrade to a new one. Generally speaking, standard mattresses are the ones that tend to attract allergens. To that end, if you are an allergy sufferer, you might want to get a latex or memory foam mattress to replace it.

Once you realize it is time to buy a new mattress, you can decide on exactly what you want. If you need a new mattress, don’t wait to purchase a new one. Consider going to Crowley Furniture Mattress Store or a mattress store in your local area as soon as possible. There are many options in addition to the standard box spring type mattress, which is no longer the most popular for a variety of reasons. However, while you wait for your new mattress, you can take steps to make yourself more comfortable with your current one. It is advised that you turn your mattress every two months, so turning it over while you wait for your new one could help in the meantime.
