How to remodel your living room effectively

August 24, 2015 Guest Post

Are you bored of your current living room? Have you ever wanted a certain style but been unsure where to start?

With the living room being the most favored and busiest area of most homes, it is an area of your home that is in regular need of attention, maintenance and repairs. With so many things to consider, refurbishing your living room takes a lot of planning. After all, this is the area where most of your family activities take place, from relaxing on your favourite sofa to entertaining guests and watching your favourite television programmes.

There are a variety of ways to refurbish your living room. Refurbishing is great way to show your originality but you also need to make sure that it is arranged comfortably. Traditionally the living room was a formal area in which to welcome guests, in the modern era it has become a room with numerous purposes, whether that be having a few friends around for a gathering, sitting down with a book or watching a movie.

One way to refurbish your living area is to minimize the amount of furniture; more open spaces will create the perception of a larger living area. You could start by wall mounting your television, this will avoid taking up space and will allow everyone to watch it. It is also a good idea to place a dining table in this area as this is where most families entertain their guests nowadays.

They say your living room reflects your personality. There is no need to add lots of furniture and items to your room because it’s all about the organization of these that matters the most. Poor arrangement of furniture can spoil the look, feel and atmosphere within any living room. Although it is great to let your imagination run wild, the more traditional ways of arranging things should be used to keep your room organized. In order to make your living room more appealing to guests and family members, creative arrangements should be restricted by the comfort of your room.

Below are five handy tips to help you remodel your living room

Analyze and plan. You need to think of all the reasons that you do not like your current room, what do you not like? Is it not to your taste? Maybe you are just bored with your old living room and need to rearrange the furniture. Try visualizing how your ideal room would look then make a list of all the things that you would like to change, and anything you would like to keep the same.

Paint your walls. Painting walls can create the illusion of a larger room with just a few coats of paint. Generally, the cooler colors of paint tend to make a room look more open. The various colors also have different effects on peoples mood, if you have children then I recommend using primary colors. If you are looking to create a more formal feel then choose brown, black or beige. Green is often the choice for creating a relaxing vibe, and yellow blended with green to create an outdoors look.

Make your living room environmentally friendly. If you have drafty windows or doors, change them, this will help lower cooling and heating costs. Also open your windows as much as possible to let in some natural light, not only will this save you electricity but you will also be a lot happier for it.

Lights. People underestimate the difference that lights make to a living room. The right lights will create an improved, more relaxed feel if placed in the correct positions and the correct amount of light.
Furniture. If you have the budget to spend a little more, then you can also replace some of the furniture in your living room. This will obviously make a huge difference as furniture takes up the majority of space within a room, for example adding a new fireplace or changing your sofa, sofas have a big effect on how your living room looks and are often the first thing people notice.
